Ms. Kersting grew up in Northern Kentucky, just south of Cincinnati. She moved to Louisville in 2004 to attend the University of Louisville, where she earned her Bachelors of Science in Political Science, with minors in English and Marketing. She then continued on to earn her law degree from the Brandies School of Law, at the University of Louisville.
While in law school Ms. Kersting was a student attorney, representing victims of domestic violence, through the University of Louisville Law Clinic. During that time she developed a passion for representing her clients and fighting for their rights.
Ms. Kersting spent her law school career focusing on the law as it relates to same-sex families and LGBTQ rights. She is an activist in the gay community, and continues to work to advance the rights of LGBTQ individuals in the state of Kentucky. She also hopes to use her knowledge of the law to protect these individuals, even with the current state of the laws.
